Julia’s Studio at Burnaby Public Library
(Crochet & Flower Arrangement)

On May 29 and June 12, the Settlement Workers in Schools (SWIS), in partnership with Burnaby Public Library, hosted Julia’s Art Studio sessions at McGill Library. These hands-on workshops featured crochet and flower bouquet arrangement activities.
Newcomer students from Alpha Secondary, Burnaby North, Burnaby Mountain, and Burnaby South took part in this enriching experience. Originally from countries such as Afghanistan, Iran, Eritrea, Uganda, Korea, Palestine, Ukraine and China, the students had valuable opportunities to learn new skills, express their creativity, and build connections in a welcoming environment.
More than just artistic instruction, the sessions supported students’ well-being and fostered a sense of camaraderie, community, and belonging.
